The 6 Roles of a Tutor

If you stay focused on these goals, then you will be within your role as a tutor.

#1 - Promoting independence in learning.

Students want to be able to do things on their own and it’s your job to make that happen. For example, when I am tutoring a computer student, the first thing I do is put my hands in my pocket..

My hands are cold
I don't want to control the mouse or keyboard
I don't want to catch germs from the student
My fingernails are dirty

You already know how to do it, it is your job to have the student do it. Is that starting to make sense now?

Now, let’s examine how to personalize instruction.
