Intercultural differences

What and how we communicate is a product of our respective cultures. Culture is the framework any individual brings to any communication.

Because cultures differ, our communication processes differ.

That considerable opportunity for misunderstanding and ill-will exists in inter-cultural tutoring. No one perceives everything and no one perceives things without interpretation.

From our cultural experiences we learn what to attend to and what to filter out.
What you see and the meaning you assign what you see are automatic, but not always accurate or appropriate. If you are fair, communicate clearly and are open to people different than you, then your relationships with each tutee can be mutually positive and productive.

Don’t be afraid to talk about communication with those with whom you communicate…talking has a tremendous potential to ease tension and create the bonds of understanding.go
